The Caucasus

About the Region

As one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse regions of the world, the Caucasus has dozens of minority Muslim people groups with no Gospel witness. With the highest concentration of unengaged people groups in the world, this rugged mountainous region has seen little significant Gospel work in the past 20 years.

Regional, political, and linguistic dynamics make the Muslim people groups of the Caucasus especially challenging to engage. Several cities hold great opportunities for new workers to learn language and culture while preparing to launch into areas that are harder to access.

Quick facts
  • Population:  26 million people
  • Approximately 50% Muslim
  • Estimated 18 unengaged Muslim people groups of 10,000+
  • Over 100 unique languages spoken within this small region
  • A mountainous region whose people are proud and fiercely loyal

Regional needs

The Caucasus is a highly underserved region of the Muslim world. New workers are needed to bring the light of the Gospel to its unengaged Muslim people groups.

In spite of the challenges of living in this rugged region, many countries in the Caucasus welcome students, business people, and especially English teachers.

Field workers are discovering new and fruitful opportunities to partner with believers from nearby countries to facilitate movements to Christ among Muslims in the Caucasus.

How to pray

  • Pray for God to stir the hearts of prospective field workers to pursue long-term service in the Caucasus.
  • Ask God to send workers who will persevere in mastering complex languages to reach Muslims living in rugged areas that are extremely difficult to access.
  • Pray for open doors for Frontiers workers to study God’s Word with Muslims belonging to even the most spiritually resistant peoples.
