Khalil rolled over in bed for what felt like the hundredth time. He tried to force himself to sleep despite the pain.
While getting a simple surgery a week earlier, he’d suffered a rare complication, and each day had brought more suffering than the last. He was beginning to lose hope that he would ever feel strong again.
Finally, sleep came, and Khalil dreamed of a man in white telling him his pain would subside.
He was sure the man in white was Jesus.
Khalil woke to a sunny morning and lay motionless, thinking about the dream. Over the last couple of years, he’d met a few Christian foreigners, including Jared, a Frontiers field worker who lived in his city. They’d talked several times about faith and religion, and based on those conversations, Khalil was sure the man in white was Jesus.
He sat up, bracing for the pain he knew would shoot through his body.
But there was no pain—only a dull ache. The words he had heard in his dream had come true.
“While I followed Islam, I never felt any connection with God. But I know Jesus is real.”
Later that night, Khalil called Jared. The two agreed to meet, and Khalil was excited. Although he’d casually heard about religions other than Islam, he had no idea what it meant to follow Jesus.
Khalil and Jared talked for hours during their first meeting, poring over the Injil. At the end of their time, Khalil knew he had discovered a truth worth living for. He asked Jared to continue meeting with him so they could study the Bible together.
One afternoon, Khalil told Jared, “While I followed Islam, I never felt any connection with God. But I know Jesus is real.”
Pain-free and filled with hope from what he read in the Injil, Khalil committed to following Jesus.
