My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
—Psalm 73:26 (NIV)
On September 8, 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco southwest of Marrakesh, devastating villages in the High Atlas Mountains. This is the strongest earthquake to hit Morocco in a century, and more than 2900 lives have been lost. Thousands more have sustained serious injuries. Many Moroccans are sleeping in the streets because their villages have been turned to rubble. Access roads in the mountainous areas have been damaged, making it even more difficult to reach those most impacted with the help they need.
Thousands of Moroccans are grieving the loss of loved ones, facing uncertain futures, and in urgent need of prayer and humanitarian care.
Here’s how you can pray:
Ask God to give miraculous insight to search and rescue teams.
Pray that those who are waiting to be rescued will be given strength to endure.
Ask God to be near to those grieving the loss of loved ones.
Pray that rescue and aid teams will be able to access remote villages with the greatest needs.
Ask God to give Christian NGO workers opportunities to share the Gospel as they care for physical needs.
In addition to prayer, those affected by this earthquake have many practical needs. The morning after the earthquake, our teams joined others to bring water, food, medicine, and blankets to the affected areas. Many of them have been working tirelessly to rescue those buried and help survivors.
Our teams are also reaching out to many networks of contacts in the affected areas. We will provide emergency aid and be messengers of hope to those in need. And we’re asking you to be part of the relief effort with a financial gift to Frontiers’ Crisis Fund for Morocco.
Many Moroccans are dealing with enormous suffering, unimaginable loss, and massive uncertainty. We have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus to these people. Thank you for your prayers and generous support.
